On this 5th week of the kindness challenge, we’re looking at choosing kindness. This is about being mindful about our everyday interactions and choosing to be kind, even in the smallest or simplest of ways.
The prompt and challenge for the week is here:
Week 5 Kindness Challenge – Choosing Kindness
Nikki included this quote in her post and I think it sums up how we should all be living everyday:
It’s not our job to play judge and jury, to determine who is worthy of our kindness and who is not. We just need to be kind, unconditionally and without ulterior motive, even – or rather, especially – when we’d prefer not to be.

This week the challenge is to think of times where we struggle to be kind, either at home of work, in times of stress or whatever. We need to focus on these times and work out how we can show kindness in these circumstances.
So for me, being a guy I can get moody – especially when things don’t go right or go downright wrong. I get stressed and annoyed with the closest living organism to me. Taking a deep breath and remembering that this is just the ebb and flow of life can help me to show more kindness here.
So this kind of thing has happened a few times this week, I won’t lie – I’ve shouted a few times but quickly realised this and calmed down. Talking calmly even when inside you feel like exploding has helped me to get a better head to the situation and not take it out on those around me.
Along with this too, even thought I’m working somewhere that is now strange, I’m making sure I smile and say hello and I’ve even done the extra step of sticking post it notes in random places with smiley faces. I hope people see these and smile with them!
Have a great week all my bloggies!
Simon 🙂
I love how having this intention of being kind (especially when it’s hard) helped you to be mindful. It takes a lot of practice to catch ourselves before we use our default reaction but stopping when you realize it is a great start! May you continue to keep the intentions of the challenge with you and watch how you grow ❤

Oooopsie! Been a while since I swung by Planet Simon, but it looks like things are going well here! I really like the idea of random smiley post-it notes dotted around your office – it made me smile, anyway 😀 Enjoy your weekend!

Helen! I’ve been thinking about you. Ive been bad at stopping by beastie so I’m just as bad… Maybe I should email you sometimes. Certainly keep in touch more.
I’ve got to try and do more silly things I think… That are kind of course.
How are you? 😊

What kind of silt stuff do you do?
I bet you’re not too used to sunshine being that far west 😎

Ah, Dublin’s not too bad really… It doesn’t get the hammering from the elements that Galway does. Add for silly stuff… I’m pretty sure “making monsters for a living” tops the list 😆

This is true… Plus you take them on little adventures!

Well, they practically demand that! Explorer Beastie is pestering me to take him to our National Gallery next… It just reopened after nearly 10 years of renovation work, and he’s SO annoyed I went over the weekend without him!

I can imagine he is annoyed! Is he having tantrums or something? You’ll have to go again! 😉

I love your words – ebb and flow of life… I forget sometimes life is not static it’s dynamic… I just wish that sometimes this dynamic flow is a little faster.. But life smiles at me and then dances to its own beat

Oh how wonderful! I find that a random compliment to someone somewhere makes them smile.

Oh, I like the post-it note idea a lot! I work in a pretty high-stress job. Tensions run high. I’m thinking a few random smiley faces might do a lot of good.

Thanks – we need to think about how we react to things don’t we?

Yes we have to think before reacting and also we should never judge the situation, individual or any any one.

You can get moody? 😜 Seriously now, it is not always easy to stay kind when you see unfairness and injustice happen. But if being able to distance a bit we can see that we would only make it worse if we hung in and try being right. At least, we did not pour oil on the fire. It reminds me of a Dyer quote: “How others treat you is their path, how I react is mine!”
