Blog Orbit – Blog Date June 2022

Hello there bloggies!

Well here we are arriving at the halfway point of the year – June. It seems hard to believe that it wasn’t long ago I was walking 10,000 steps a day for March not long after the new year and now here we are – hump month (if you can call it that).

Here in the UK it’s all going on The Queen has just celebrated her Platinum jubilee, the first one ever and the media are calling this the last jubilee of this monarch. This was very nice of them and I’m sure the Queen really loved being told this. On the flip side there’s blood and snot flying around government as the past continues to grind on the leadership at a time where lets face it we need it to be strong.

But whatevers, I don’t care about that and now I want all attention turned towards me, well this blog really. For me it’s been a busy month with the blog – looking back I’ve got loads of stuff to share with you.

Firstly is the first few posts sharing the story of our early understanding of the universe, dating back thousands of years all the way through to the time of Einstein. I’ve done my best to tell the story in the most accessible way – so if you’ve not had a peek I suggest you do:

Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 1 Early Understanding

Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 2 Relative Motion

Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 3 The Speed of Light and the Ether

Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 4 Special Relativity

I’ve also been looking at the science of Sci-Fi and where some of the ideas and inventions sit with reality, it’s eye opening and shows how far we have come in understanding but we have a long, long way to go before harnessing any of these things:

Science in Sci-Fi – Quantum Entanglement Communication

Science in Sci-Fi – Time Travel

Science in Sci-Fi – The Teleporter

Science in Sci-Fi – Wormholes

Have a look… see what you think!

Looking back through April… some things Happened! How about that eh? Let’s kick this off… firstly there was some pretty pictures I had taken from the month before:

I just posted the one sketch this month… a kind of mind thought (if you look closely you can see the moose I tried to draw on the next page – no I’m not showing it it looks like it’s had a brain operation gone wrong!):

There’s more too!

My blog battle entry of the Alien in the Park parts 1 and 2:

I hope you’re all keeping good!

  1. I did enjoy your links and I’m so glad you’re consistently posting this with all of us ❤️. I’ve been extremely busy. We’ve had 5 people out at our farm, we took our friends to Savannah Georgia where we saw wild horses on an Island and stunning ruins. We’re also getting ready for our big trip to Yellowstone and glacier National park. Yellowstone is having flooding issues so we’re hopeful that by the time we swing that way, they will open back up again. With all the traveling I’ve been struggling to keep up with my favorite bloggers. Forgive me for not stopping by more!

      1. You too! Trying to get caught up today with all my favorites before we head to glacier 🥰 I wasn’t planning on writing a blog post for this week but yesterday things popped into my head and I found my fingers flying across the keyboard so I’ll be posting later today after all! 🥰

      2. I’ll look forward to it – it’s good to know I’m one of your fav’s 🙂
Have fun on the glacier… sounds interesting – you’re taking some pics I hope!

      3. I’m not 😬 only cellphone pictures. The reason being, I’m upgrading EVERYTHING and that takes a lot of time and funds. However, I can edit so I can edit cellphone pictures too. Is it as good of a quality? No but I can rock what I have until I’m all set again 🥰. I need about 6-10k in new stuff to do what I love to do 😬 saving that up takes time.

      4. That’s a lot of kit to get setup, cell pictures can be ok but not compared to 6k worth of kit. That’s serious.
I hope you’re sweet soon and look forward to pictures anyway 🥰

      5. I’ll do that! I’m still debating between buying the camera body of my dreams & a new laptop that can handle the workload OR ditching canon all together and going old school mirrorless with Olympus & selling everything I have currently. I really don’t know yet. It’s a toss up 😬 for now I’m just saving money until I have enough to do everything. I need a 3-4K gaming laptop so it can handle the kind of work that I do. Many of my images have several other images taken by me in a single photograph that I blend together as seamlessly as possible. This process sometimes (most of the time) causes my computers to crash and it’s a huge inconvenience to do a ton of work on an image only to loose everything. So I haven’t been shooting and I probably won’t be up and running again until next year.

      6. Ah you’re canon at the moment are you?
I think they’re brought out a mirror less body recently but I know it’s a battle between the camera brands.
Sounds like you need some serious kit.
        What lenses will you have?

      7. I have a 50mm, 85mm, 70-200, 35mm (love my 35), and I have some oddballs too that were cheaper that I use to mess around with.

I have been with cannon for a very long time. Their mirrorless body (that I’d love to have) costs 6k for the body alone. It’s a workhorse which is what I like because when I’m shooting, I shoot daily. However, the thing is bulky and I’m kinda over lugging that much crap around when the new mirrorless ones are way lighter. The canon mirrorless is a hybrid DSLR/Mirrorless so I could use all my old lenses.

Meanwhile, I shot a good number on f years with a vintage Olympus and they just came out with a vintage looking mirrorless that kinda gives canon a run for its money. It’s around 4K and way way lighter. It has some specs that are so-so and some that are pretty darn incredible when you compare the two but it would be amazing to slip it into something I can reasonably carry vs a huge camera bag. My only concerns are image compression & ISO range because I lean towards the underexposed so I can keep all the details (especially when working with kids and families and low light- my favorite kinda light). My last two canons crapped out on me. I had a 6D and a 5D mark iii that were crazy expensive at the time and are now basically obsolete 🤷‍♀️. I need a brand new work horse.

I also need to go to the camera stores and actually try things out before I make a decision (or rent them). I’m so beyond picky with my equipment that it’s not even funny. Part of me wants to keep all my lenses and drop the money on that gorgeous 6K canon hybrid… part of me wants to get back to my roots for a lesser known company who may actually pick up my work to help represent their company (which would be wonderful).

I can’t make a decision right now and I still have two broken fingers in my right hand. So I’ll save up and go from there.

      8. I see the issue… That’s quite a decision to make and it sounds like you’re going to take your time over it.
I hope your fingers heal soon 🙂🥰

  2. You’ve been a very busy lad by the sounds of it 😌 and I, apparently, have a lot of catching up to do. But yes, couldn’t agree more, time is literally flying by, faster than it ever has before it seems, even out here amongst the alpacas and the cows. 😂Have a great week Si and fantastic photos by the way! 😊

  3. you have been super busy Si, blogging and life! Love these awesome shots, thanks for sharing.

I’m more busy socialising and crafty creating, losing interest in WP … hope to travel over to WA to see their wildflower show in August … that’s more than 4,000 kms direct, so a rather long drive as I will zig zag my journey to catch up with more friends. Freedom on a long road trip after a severe lockdown here.

The jubilee was a non-event here with our new PM promising to become a republic once Lizzie dies. Your PM is a disgrace, can’t believe he survived the no-confidence vote. But as another blogger pointed out there is not much choice …

    1. It’s good to know you’re busy enjoying your freedom, I hope your very long road trip goes well and you keep safe. I’m pleased you like my shots 🙂

I think the commonwealth will go after Lizzie – Charles isn’t inspiring the nations to keep it going I don’t think.

Our PM is an utter disgrace, I have no words about him surviving no confidence but it’s not over yet and the thing is it’s getting ever closer to the next election. As you say though – we’re not spoiled for choice.

      Keep well Kate 🙂
