Fact, snippets of useless information and all of that kind of thing makes up most of what’s in my brain – so I thought I would infect the general interweb with al of this and see what fact I can trawl for you!
Enjoy!
Did you know…
It sounds like it might not just be us melting the Antarctic, a whole load of volcanoes hidden under the ice might be too.
Scientists at the University of Edinburgh came to this conclusion after they found 91 volcanoes that had remained hidden from geological surveys. The results brought the total of identified volcanoes on the continent to 138—all of which are in an area called the West Antarctic Rift System. The finding unseats east Africa as the area of the world with the highest concentration of volcanoes.

Fascinating! I would not have guessed that. There’s probably a lot of stuff we don’t know about yet hidden beneath the ice.

My question is how/where do 91 volcanoes hide? I understand missing a few but that is a slew of hot spots!!
Keep on coming with useless information. I find it’s my favorite. Much more lighthearted and appealing than politics!

They’re hidden under really thick ice at the bottom of a huge lake.
I’m glad you enjoy – I do my best to stay away from politics. 😉

That’s a fact to raise the eyebrows! It’s a big place and not the most friendly of climates to walk through so the continent must still hold a number of secrets.
Did the findings determining if any have been active in the last couple of centuries? (I know that doesn’t even count as a blink in geological terms) just interested.

I think there is some activity but how much is uncertain. Any activity will of course help the ice to melt.

Whether there is or isn’t we can’t control it…

Surprising how many folk don’t see it that way🤨.
Presumably they don’t grasp the concept of hubris either.

We don’t get to control The Global Systems.
We might have started the Holocene Extinction, but unless we wise up it’s not finished with us.
