I knew that about the elevator buttons and the hotel thermostats. But did you also know that the buttons for pedestrians on the crosswalks are also placebos, they really don’t change the lights and are also on timers. The things engineers have to plan to make people feel as if they have control over stuff. I learned that while working in Civil Engineering at my other University.
