On this 2nd day of the Song Challenge, I’ve picked a cheery tune with a bit of nostalgia. A big thank you to Erika Kind who nominated me for this challenge. It’s been a while since I’ve posted much music to my blog so this makes a nice change and it’s making me think about some different and interesting tunes.

Here are the rules:

Today’s nominees:

Ginger Ocean

This song is appearing all over the place these days, but Eric and Ernie immortalised it!

Bring me Sunshine – Eric and Ernie

Eric and Ernie – Bring me Sunshine

“You Bring Me Sunshine”

Bring me sunshine in your smile
Bring me laughter all the while
In this world where we live
There should be more happiness
All the joy can give
Te each brand new bright tomorrow
Make me happy through the years
Never bring me any tearsLet your arms be as warm
As the sun from up above
Bring me fun, bring me sunshine, bring me love

Bring me sunshine in your eye
Bring me a rainbow from the sky
Life’s too short to be spent having anything but fun
We can be so content if we gather little rainbows
Make me happy all the long
And I’ll keep singing my happy songs

Let your arms be as warm
As the sun from up above
Bring me fun, bring me sunshine, bring me love

Make me happy all long
And I’ll keep on singing my happy songs

Let your arms be as warm
As the sun from up above
Bring me fun, bring me sunshine, bring me love

It’s day 1 of the Song Challenge. A big thank you to Erika Kind who nominated me for this challenge. It’s been a while since I’ve posted much music to my blog so this makes a nice change and it’s making me think about some different and interesting tunes.

Here are the rules:

Today’s nominees:

The song I’ve chosen today is one I heard a few days ago and it brings me out i goosebumps every time I hear it  – it has so much feeling in it.

Sound of Silence – Simon & Garfunkel

Simon & Garfunkel – Sound of Silence

“The Sound Of Silence”

Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silenceIn restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silenceAnd in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dare
Disturb the sound of silence“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you”
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said “The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence”

The Blue Sky Tag

I had a little surprise the other day when Tina of Writteningeek nominated me for the Blue Sky Tag. Thank you for this Tina, it was a real joy to get this from you and to fill in all the questions. I love getting tags and that kind of thing

This is the updated version of the post – the answers to my questions were lost last rime around! grrr…

The rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions.
  3. Tag 11 people.
  4. Give your nominees 11 questions to answer.

Here are my answers to the questions:

  • What frightens you the most?

I think the future does – but you know spiders are pretty scary!

  • Coffee or tea? (I am not addicted to coffee, I just have a VERY strong appreciation for the bean.  😉  ).

Tea every time, all kinds and tastes, even some fruity ones 🙂

  • Have you ever traveled outside your country?

I have been to Sweden a few times and France once for work – not a holiday but hey!

  • Would you survive a zombie apocalypse?

Who knows? I would like to think I would and I would use brains rather than brawn to do it – I think there would be more risk from other humans trying to survive.

  • Name one thing on your bucket list.

To start living.

  • What’s the thing that you are most proud of?

Not sure really, either than means I’m not proud or not much has made me proud yet… Hmmm. I’ll let you know on that one!

  • Would you ever travel to outer space?

Sure I would – what an adventure!

  • Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I have to be a bit of both these days…

  • If you could have a superpower/mutant ability, what would it be?

I wouldn’t – I want to be Iron Man 🙂

  • Do you have a phobia?

  • Do you use a lot of social media or do you just have your blog (and maybe one other account, such as Facebook).

I do use a fair bit of social media, I have Facebook, but I’m rarely on it, I also use Pinterest, SumbleUpon and Twitter 🙂

Now I’ve got my 11 miscreant’s otherwise known as nominee’s:

Here are  the 11 questions for my nominees:

  1. When you see blue skies and a sunny day what do you want to do most?
  2. What’s the most ‘blue skies’ thought you’ve ever had?
  3. What’s your favourite season and why?
  4. Has there been a moment in your life that stands out above anything? What was it?
  5. What do you love most about blogging?
  6. What do you think could make blogging better?
  7. What’s your favourite TV series?
  8. What’s your favourite film?
  9. What was the last piece of music you bought?
  10. Apple or Android?
  11. What was the last thing you did that you thought you wouldn’t like but were surprised you did?

There’s no pressure to take part – I hope you all do though!

All my nominee’s are great bloggies – make sure you have a look at what they’re up to and click their follow buttons!

Simon 🙂

My good friend Acire from Scribes Canvas tagged me on the blog-Aholics award. Acire is someone who I think it quietly brilliant. She writes her stories, does her thing and doesn’t shout about it. Her love of Sci Fi was a surprise to me. Make sure you visit her blog and follow.

  3. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog (it can be to the post in which they nominated you or any other post or you can even link to their “About” page)

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Time Dilation and Messing with my Head

Two Wolves – A Cherokee Teching

3 interesting facts about me :

  1. I’m an engineer.
  2. I find monotony boring.

The black cat, blue sea award!

Thanks to Aditi for nominating me for the black Cat, blue sea award. I’ve not seen this one before, but it looks kinda cool! Aditi is a relatively new follower. She writes her thoughts and muses down a her own gentle and real fashion. Have a look at her blog – it’s a nice place to be!

Thanks again Aditi! 🙂

Here are the rules of this award:

(1) Thank the blogger who nominated you.
(2) Anybody nominated can nominate up to seven other bloggers.
(3) Anybody nominated answers three questions. You further have to ask some other three questions from your selected nominees. If nominee doesn’t want to answer any of the asked questions, he or she does not have to answer it to earn the award.

3 questions that Aditi asked me are :

(1.) If given a chance to become a writer/author, who would you like to become like? (I mean kind of your inspiration)

If I was given the chance to be a writer I would follow firmly in the footsteps of Arthur C Clarke. The man was more than a writer, but a visionary that put his visions to print.

(2.) Your one decision, which you are still proud of?

I’m proud I’m an engineer, despite the trials it comes with I know it’s given me a positive role on this Earth.

(3.) Your favorite book and movie?

My favourite book and move are 2001 a Space Odyssey, from Arthur C Clarke himself. As a story and a film it’s not fast paced, but it captures wonderfully a journey surrounded by isolation, mystery and the unknown.

My nominations for this award are (again, list is in random order) –

3 questions I want you people to answer are –

(1.) If given a chance to become a writer/author, who would you like to become like? (I mean kind of your inspiration)

(2.) What is your greatest achievement to date?

You can answer either one or both of them, as per your comfort level.

(3.) Your favorite book and movie?

I would love it if you could all participate, but if not, no worries just take the nomination in the kind spirit it was given 🙂

The Unique Blogger Award

The Meme I Really Like

This is something I see every so often and seriously it brings me to tears every time!

After having been told my danglies looked like an elderly Rastafarian I decided to take the plunge and buy some of this as previous shaving attempts had only been mildly successful and I nearly put my back out trying to reach the more difficult bits. Being a bit of a romantic I thought I would do the deed on the missus’s birthday as a bit if a treat.

I ordered it well in advance and working in the North Sea I considered myself a bit above some of the characters writing the previous reviews and wrote them off as soft office types…Oh my fellow sufferers how wrong I was. I waited until the other half was tucked up in bed and after giving some vague hints about a special surprise I went down to the bathroom. Initially all went well and I applied the gel and stood waiting for something to happen. I didn’t have long to wait.

At first there was a gentle warmth which in a matter of seconds was replaced by an intense burning and a feeling I can only describe as like being given a barbed wire wedgie by two people intent on hitting the ceiling with my head. Religion hadn’t featured much in my life until that night but I suddenly became willing to convert to any religion to stop the violent burning around the turd tunnel and what seemed like the the destruction of the meat and two veg. Struggling not to bite through my bottom lip I tried to wash the gel off in the sink and only succeeded in blocking the plughole with a mat of hair. Through the haze of tears I struggled out of the bathroom across the hall into the kitchen, by this time walking was not really possible and I crawled the final yard to the fridge in the hope of some form of cold relief. I yanked the freezer drawer out and found a tub of ice cream, toe the lid off and positioned it under me. The relief was fantastic but only temporary as it melted fairly quickly and the fiery stabbing returned. Due to the shape of the ice cream tub I hadn’t managed to give the starfish any treatment and I groped around in the draw for something else as I was sure my vision was going to fail fairly soon. I grabbed a bag of what I later found out was frozen sprouts and tore it open trying to be quiet as I did so. I took a handful of them and an tried in vain to clench some between the cheeks of my arse. This was not doing the trick as some of the gel had found its way up the chutney channel and it felt like the space shuttle was running its engines behind me.

This was probably and hopefully the only time in my life I was going to wish there was a gay snowman in the kitchen which should give you some idea of the depths I was willing to sink to in order to ease the pain. The only solution my pain crazed mind could come up with was to gently ease one of the sprouts where no veg had gone before.

Unfortunately, alerted by the strange grunts coming from the kitchen the other half chose that moment to come and investigate and was greeted by the sight of me, arse in the air, strawberry ice cream dripping from my bell end pushing a sprout up my arse while muttering “ooooohhh that feels good” Understandably this was a shock to her and she let out a scream and as I hadn’t heard her come in it caused an involuntary spasm of shock in myself which resulted in the sprout being ejected at quite some speed in her direction. I can understand that having a sprout fired against your leg at 11 at night in the kitchen probably wasn’t the special surprise she was expecting and having to explain to the kids the next day what the strange hollow in the ice cream was didn’t improve my status…so to sum it up, VEET removes hair, dignity and self-respect.

The Liebster Award

Thank you to the lovely Acire for nominating me for this amazing award! It’s the third time of getting this and I always like to participate in them as it keeps the whole thing going and spreads the good will around. Have a look at Acire’s blog, she’s got some great work going on and I found out only a couple of weeks ago is a Scifi fan – so naturally I’ve been begging her to read some of my work to see what she thinks!

Here are my answers to the questions that Tumbling Words asked me:

  • What is your favorite mode of transportation and why?

I used to travel to work by train and I loved this as I could read or something while travelling. I can’t do this now and I really miss it. Sure I  like driving but it’s not the same.

  • What is your favorite foreign food?

Definitely Indian, you can’t beat it!

  • Are you a dog person or a cat person?

A cat person really, but I still love dogs.

  • What kind of music do you like?

All kinds, it’s random – see here: Music

  • Why did you start your blog?

I started my blog to be a voice into the world, it’s gone on to me so much more.

  • Have you ever flown a kite? And if so, where?

I have, I wasn’t very good, it was at a park.

  • Would you rather live in the city or country? Why?

I would, I think. Just to see what it’s like!

  • Have you written anything besides your blog?

Not really, although I’m trying to.

  • Would you rather go to an art museum or a soccer (football) match?

Not sure really – neither.

  • Do you speak more than one language (klingon counts)?

Nope, not even Klingon! 😛

  • You are happiest when you are wearing what on your feet?

I nominate the following amazing blogs for The Liebster Award:

Quirky Girl

Just Shizzle

What you need to do:

Make sure to answer the questions below, then nominate up to 11 other blogs. The idea is to nominate those with 500 followers or less. Ask those you’ve nominated 11 questions and make sure to add the Liebster Award sticker to your blog!

  1. What is your favorite mode of transportation and why?
  2. What if your favorite foreign food?

I would like to say thank you again to Acire for nominating me, it’s always great to get and blog an award. I’m not sure all my nominee’s have less than 500 followers, but neither did I and I hope you take part, it’s ok – the award was given with much blog love!
