On the 15th of September 2017 the completing the last of it’s ‘Grand Finale’ maneuvers the space craft Cassini entered Saturn’s atmosphere and burned up. This ended a mission that began with it’s launch in 1997 with the exploration mission lasting 13 years from 2004 until it’s destruction in September 2017 when the last images were beamed to Earth from Saturn as it dived into it’s clouds.
While this device, this probe was not a person, it was a spectacular feat of engineering, borne from the passion of the humans that built and operated it to explore and discover. Explore and discover we did, new moons, new possibilities, new mysteries and new challenges have come and will come from the Cassini data for decades to come.
I wanted to commemorate the 5 years that have passed since Cassini with a piece of art, it’s nothing amazing and a little late but I have created it. It’s not how it appeared in my head, but it’s not bad.
I’m sorry, it’s me – I can’t help it. I’ve tried to keep the insanity from the door of this corner of the web but I can’t do it any longer. The world in which we live is wonderful, beautiful and terrible thing and yet there’s few – well quite a lot of people actuallyβ¦
In this series of posts I’m going to look at the human perspective and ask questions like ‘What does it mean to be human?’ or ‘How can I be a better Human?’ with a little sprinkling of ‘How can I be more comfortable as a human?’In this mad world we’ve been enduring especially over theβ¦

My name is Simon I'm an engineer, creator, free thinker and occasionally writer. For far too long I had ideas and nowhere to put them for the world to see, that's why Planet Simon was created.
I'm an experimenter, explorer and fascinated by the world around me and the people in it. My exploration goes further than the known universe and expands out to universe's I've created in my mind and put onto the creative canvas.
I'm not the person I used to be and over time I have evolved and the blog is evolving with me. Whatever this blog is in the future it's a place where all are welcome and ideas can roam free to find their magical place in the universe.

Has it really been five years already? Somehow it feels more recent to me. Cassini was an incredible mission. Kept going way longer than anyone expected, and it was sad to see it come to an end.
