This latest large sketch work is based on a photo of 2 small dogs laying on a sofa. As you can imagine getting the it to look right is more than just perspective and getting the face look right – there’s loads of fur try and capture the look of.
So the line drawing started out like this and I thought yeah it’s looking ok. Some back ground was needed (I thought) for context to complete the story.
I took the uneasy decision to create the background in color as closely as I could get it to look from the photo. I’m still not sure it was the right one but at this point in the work I was ready to throw it all away and thought I had ruined it.
But I persisted, thinking that bringing out the detail of the dogs could save it…
Eventually ending up with this… Being the creator of this I see all the flaws, but I think it’s still pretty good.
What do you think? Any tips or advice on making it better?
