Looking back on 2021

When I look back on 2021 I realise that not only did it seem like a year where motivation was low and I struggled to create and come up with idea but also that I’ve done different things and I’ve shown some of them off. Because of this and becasue some of these posts can be fleeting and not seen I wanted to have this look back post.

Fiction

I think my muse and my desire suffered more than anything over the last year or so and that is something I want to address in 2022 but… I have told a short story or two:

Blog Battle – The Brian Incident

Blog Battle – The Wallagong Beast

Blog Battle – The Conker Singularity – Part 1
Blog Battle – The Conker Singularity – Part 2

What I’m a bit surprised at looking at these is how few Blog Battles I took part in and these are the only proper fiction made up stories that I wrote. There needs to be more this year!

Cartoons

I’ve been creating one or two cartoons on here, the most prominent is 100 Ways to Die in Space. I’ve separated these from fiction as firstly they’re not based on fiction but mainly becasue I created these to show off some of my digital art content skill as well and it’s more of a cartoon.

What I realise looking at these and I didn’t appreciate is how few I created this year. Maybe I need to finish this off with a full set of 100 demises…

100 Ways to Die in Space – # 17 Black Hole

100 Ways to Die in Space – # 16 Electric Shock

But then I’ve also created the Comic Cosmos, little strips on the cosmos and having a little fun with it. I would like to make a good few of these so I have a little collection by the end of 2022.

Comic Cosmos – Juno Visits Ganymede

Comic Cosmos – The Strawberry Supermoon

Comic Cosmos – Water Vapour on Europa

Space Art

This all new creative endeavour is something I’ve wanted to try for ages… really ages. There are a good number of space artists out there and some of them are truly stunning. Inspired by some of these greats and by the wealth of utterly inspiring pictures out there I had a go at a few pieces created digitally.

For 2022 I would really love to make more pieces like this and eve try my hand with some actual paint.

Space Art – The Clouds of Jupiter

Space Art – Saturn and the Distant Sun

Space Art – The Horsehead Nebula

Photography

Finally, I’ve been able to advance my photography. A decent camera set up has meant I can get closer and see further…

More of this is to come.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little look back and I hope you stick with me over the year as once more this blog and my content evolves and changes into something else…

It should be fun!

Thinking about it makes it Hurt – Can you just…

I’m sorry, it’s me – I can’t help it. I’ve tried to keep the insanity from the door of this corner of the web but I can’t do it any longer. The world in which we live is wonderful, beautiful and terrible thing and yet there’s few – well quite a lot of people actually…

Life the Universe and Everything – Time is No Illusion

In this series of posts I’m going to look at the human perspective and ask questions like ‘What does it mean to be human?’ or ‘How can I be a better Human?’ with a little sprinkling of ‘How can I be more comfortable as a human?’In this mad world we’ve been enduring especially over the…

  1. On the whole Simon you had very productive year. Writing, Art, Photography and covering all three in equal measure. Ample evidence to show your creativity was working away in all directions. Your universe is expanding.
    Keep up the good work!

  2. You might have written fewer stories, but I think that it’s because you are finding yourself. The space art looks pretty cool and the photographs are amazing. Seeing you have a signature and all that now, I have a feeling that it might be the direction you and your blog will go. Good luck!
