Hi there bloggies, I’ve been seeing some post warning me of an A – Z Challenge and I was curious. I’ve seen this around before but have never participated, for some mad reason I thought I would give it a go.
So here I am.
My theme is the A-Z of Scifi moves, I’ve not given this a great deal of thought and I know of a number but I won’t lie there’s some I will struggle with. I hope you enjoy them!
K is for Krull
Krull is more of a Lord of the Rings fantasy story if I’m completely honest, there’s not a lot of science in it (if any – eek) but I’m struggling with K so this will do. The thing that strikes you with this film is the cast, what do you get when you cross Robbie Coltrane, Alun Armstrong, Liam Neeson, Bernard Bresslaw and Todd Carty. That Krull… it’s a bit weird like that.
As with most stories like this it starts with a prophecy and then a baddies, enter the Beast who charges around the universe in his mountain spaceship and an army of kinda dim witted but somehow deadly slayers. So he kidnaps the young princess about to be married to Colwyn, a pince with a sword and a five bladed star called a Glaive. Colwyn gets this and then sets out to get back Lyssa and defeat the beast.
On the way he picks up a motley crew to help him… So begins the fun and excitement.
Krull is kind of weird, in many ways. Far more weird than Lord of the Rings certainly. I do quite like it, even though is quite silly and some of the things going on leave you wondering what was going on in the writer’s mind. This is a typical quest story and if you like that kind of thing it’s great. It’s a bit old now but it hasn’t aged too badly.
With K done that means L is next… and one of my little favourites!
Science fiction is as the name suggests the fiction of science. With all it’s vastness and complexity it’s taken a long time for humans to reach the understanding that we have of the universe that we have. This is the story of evolving understanding and how simplicity gives way to incredible truth’s that seems to sit at odds with how we think life should be… andContinue reading “Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 2 Relative Motion”
