Hi there bloggies, I’ve been seeing some post warning me of an A – Z Challenge and I was curious. I’ve seen this around before but have never participated, for some mad reason I thought I would give it a go.
So here I am.
My theme is the A-Z of Scifi moves, I’ve not given this a great deal of thought and I know of a number but I won’t lie there’s some I will struggle with. I hope you enjoy them!

E is for Event Horizon
Event Horizon – human kinds first spacecraft designed to travel between the stars. Using technology that creates a wormhole in space the spacecraft disappeared somewhere near Neptune and wasn’t heard from for years.
Until now.
The designer of the Event Horizon and a rescue crew go out to find the Event Horizon, find out what happened and retrieve the spacecraft if possible. What they find they couldn’t have imagined in their worse nightmares.

I had such high hopes for this film, I was a bit unimpressed when it turned into essentially a cheap horror movie that was more about blood and gore than about anything Sci-Fi – that was all done about about 20 minutes in. I can see why it would appeal to some, but it just didn’t to me despite what was a pretty good cast.
That makes for letter E – F should follow tomorrow!

Science in Sci-Fi – Time Travel
Science fiction is as the name suggests the fiction of science. I thought it would be a fun, interesting and at times mind bending idea too look at the science behind some of the technology in science fiction and look under the hood to see what’s required to make it work or what barriers areContinue reading “Science in Sci-Fi – Time Travel”

Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 2 Relative Motion
With all it’s vastness and complexity it’s taken a long time for humans to reach the understanding that we have of the universe that we have. This is the story of evolving understanding and how simplicity gives way to incredible truth’s that seems to sit at odds with how we think life should be… andContinue reading “Time, Space and the Universe as we know it – Part 2 Relative Motion”

Science in Sci-Fi – Quantum Entanglement Communication

Hmmm not seen this and by reading other comments, don’t think I will!

I’m proud to say that I truly and deeply hate this movie. I hate it. I watched it years ago and was traumatised by the gory scenes. If I see it on the menu of movies on TV, I switch my TV off immediately, that’s how much I hate it.

I can totally see why you do that – I found the gory scenes too much for me too.

I did like this one for the combination of genres. (but I didn’t like 2001 A Space Odyssey, so what do I know?) Generally not well received, but of a cult following film

We like what we like, 2001 is one you either love or hate!

Yeah, I used to think it was just me.
Always the sign of Good Film when it divides audiences about 50/50.

That it does… Definitely

I agree–I thought it was very gory and didn’t live up to its potential!

I havenโt watched that since the late โ90s, but Iโve been meaning to revisit it.

I’ve seen it back when I was 14 or so, so it was properly scary, but I agree that there wasn’t much of sci-fi in it beyond the setting. It’s not a movie I’d like to rewatch. (Aliens, on the other hand, I’ve seen dozens of times.)

I agree with you, the best bit of this film is about the first twenty minutes. Then it just nosedived.

Maybe they’ll remake it? (Ok, that would only mean it’ll likely nosedive in the first 10…)

I’m not sure it could nose dive much more ๐๐

I felt much the same way about that movie. There were some good ideas in there, but the whole thing just didn’t come together well. I’ve read that they had serious problems during production. I don’t remember the details, but sometimes with movie productions (or any other kind of art) things just don’t work out the way you want them too.

I’m not a big sci-fi fan, I must admit and I’m sure that Comic epic films don’t count. But the one sci-fi film that really caught my attention was the film Moon with Sam Rockwell. I was enthralled by the entire plot. It was a really good movie in my opinion and Sam Rockwell did a great job. Oh and the robot of course that kept “him” alive, lol.

I’ll have to find that. ๐
