Planet Simon’s Weekly Orbit -Blog Date 49-2018

Hi there bloggies – happy Monday – the first Monday in December. Where the hell has this year gone?!? I can’t believe there’s now only 28 days left until the end of the year and only 22 days left until the big ho ho! This also means that it’s only a mere 16 days until my birthday… I know there’s two ways to look at this:

1: Grateful to have made it this far.

2: If every year I have survived was a rung on a ladder damn don’t look down!

So this last week…. well I would like to say I have actually done something. But I can’t. Well I have, I published my November Blog Battle story The Extinction Protocol which i have to say is a strong contender for a new serial.

It’s actually quite interesting this story becasue when I examine it in close detail there’s a load of threads I can bring into their own story from this. It’s actually quite frightening what I can do with it and the multitude of directions I can go. So watch this space…

One thing I’ve been mentioning over the last couple of weeks is the new Gutenberg editor, how many of you have tried it now? I’m getting there with it but it’s not fluid and one thing it can’t seem to do is copy posts. If anyone knows how to copy a post (because it’s useful for starting many posts off like the Weekly Orbit) then I would love to know.

BUT this does mean I need to write apost on what I’ve found so far. If you’re lucky I could squeeze that out this week.

On a more personal note I’ve been thinking that perhaps this blog has become less personal, more about things and much less about me this stuff being moved a bit to Simon’s Blog but I don’t know. This blogging lark is hard sometimes and often I just don’t know what to do even though I’ve only been doing this five years now on and off. It still eludes me… Any experts out there?

Lastly I’ve been looking up different options about this merch thing and I’m kind of lost – any advice out there?

Anyways, let me know what you’ve been up to and keep writing and smiling.

Blog Orbit – April 2024

Hello there bloggies! I can’t believe it’s April the 5th already and that means I’m technically late coming to you with the April Blog Orbit. I’m not counting though if you’re not and to be honest that kind of where…

  1. 5 years??! Wow is there a medal or something when you get to 5 years, because I think you deserve it, because if there’s one thing I’ve learnt in my nearly 2 years is that it’s hard to keep going sometimes – I’m just too stubborn to give up, I’ll keep going and make something of it if it kills me 🤣 Good luck with your story, Extinction Protocol! 👍

    1. The thing I find is you need to keep changing and evolving. Try this, try that. For me this year has been really hard and I’ve tried new things and think I’ve done some things wrong and stuck in the past. So it’s all a whirlwind.

I hope you’re about for a long time yet Sam… Anything I can help with just ask. 😀

      1. I am indeed… I don’t think I talk too posh or anything though. I might be wrong lol.
In order to answer this I need to know what your define as a cookie and a biscuit. We have biscuits which are crunchy and crumbly whereas cookies tend to be softer. Hmmm… I’m not sure I know what’s what anymore lol

      2. Well a cookie here is crumbly and crunchy, like a chocolate chip or shortbread cookie. A biscuit is a fluffy, flaky doughy well biscuit we eat with butter. So, just like ya’ll drive on the wrong side of the car and road, ya’ll have the cookie biscuit reversed as well. lmao

      3. You guys really are messed up lol. Your cookie is our biscuit and your biscuit is a cake or scone to us. Which incidentally a scone is eaten with clotted cream and jam, Jam first and then cream.
On the basis that we invented this first you’re not only saying it wrong but eating it wrong lol.
You need to drive on the left, that way your sword is ready to present to the driver coming the other way… lmfao!
How are you today, I love you coming by. 🙂

      4. I’m doing well today my friend, how are you doing?
Well now lets not get picky here, I mean our cookie is absofab, and our biscuit is well delish! And what the heck is clotted cream? I know of jam (which by the way we call here jelly) but when Eddie Izzard talks about clotted cream it doesn’t sound too appealing. As for the Brits driving on the wrong side of the road (here goes my rant). Ahhem… First of all driving on the left is just wrong, jousts no longer exist and you know why? Because we now posses large SUV’s in to inflict bodily harm you if you get in the way instead of said sword. Also, what’s the deal with chips and crisps? We have fries and chips, and by chips I don’t mean fries…lol

      5. I’m doing good thanks, I think this discussion of ours could go on forever. But let’s not let that stop us lol.
Your cookie and biscuit is fab and the biscuit delish but clotted cream adds another dimension to this delish and you need to try it. I’m not sure we ship to you yet lol.
As for the driving we don’t have jousts but the middle finger inflicts much pain and nashing of teeth lmao! Your SUV’s I think we have another name for them her… let me think. Oh yes. Tanks. lmfao!
Yeah you have chips and crisps wrong too, a chip is your french fry and our crisps are crispy potato snacks, hence the name.
I have to say you’re great at material sciences, coming up with new materials no one else has head of like Alluminum. 😀

      6. I agree we could go on forever, this could be it’s very own blog!
And………….It’s Aluminum thank you very much, I realize you Brits like to claim everything was your idea. But we American’s set ya’ll straight by doing it the right way! LMAO Oh and there is a difference between an SUV and tank, an SUV is much more refined for running people down in the street. But I have to agree with you, the middle finger does empower a driver like nothing else.
And crisps here are a type of cracker, not a potato CHIP. And we drink tea iced, not hot that’s what coffee is for…..SHALL WE CONTINUE? lol

      7. Haha… Yes I think we should continue – we should collaborate and literally write this out in a blog post!
You are cracking me up though… I can just hear your Texas twang telling me how it all is. In fact shall I mention using metric? 😉

        Liked by 1 person

      8. Ugh, metric hell to the no, American’s don’t need to use the metric system, and you know why? Because we drive on the right side of the road…literally! LOL
And just so you know I don’t have a Texas twang, that only affects people in east Texas. I don’t have an accent, but I can manage a good British one! Also since we’re on the subject of all things British/American, whats up with calling pants trousers? Pants here are, well pants the ones you wear on the outside, and the Brits call underwear trousers? WTH? lol

        Liked by 1 person

      9. Haha… This is fun. So you measure everything according to the length of a head of wheat and a kings foot. I thought you guys could fly into space 😂🤣
Trousers is right, if your all me to take my pants off then it gets awkward lmao!
We’ll have loads of stuff for a blog post at this rate 🤣
How come you guys can’t make chocolate btw? All you’ve done if buy our chocolate and then ruin it. 😝

        Like

      10. OMG!! You take that back right now!!! lol
We can make chocolate, it’s just our type of chocolate not “British” chocolate. And btw ya’ll don’t make it you all import it from the Dutch! And the very reason we don’t have to measure everything using the metric system is because WE HAVE BEEN TO SPACE! So since we’re getting fussy, whats up with Cricket? Can’t you guys play ball like regular people? I mean “football” to you is Soccer, and for us it’s FOOTBALL. As for the “pancakes”, we make them the same way, so I suppose it’s because we have mastered the making of them instead of letting them go flat, just sayin’. One more, what in the HECK is Marmite? Or is that an Australian import? Okay, your turn! lmao

      11. Nah… You can’t make it and yes we do make it here. The factory is in Birmingham.
Yeah but if you measure in metric you don’t have to divide up everything to thou and all that. Everything else has moved, in fact most of the US has. 😂
Cricket is a fantastic game, lasts for days and can still end in a draw. Yes… Football because you kick it with your feet, as the British person that invented it thought. Haha…
We don’t let them go flat just add less goop so we can flip them. I’ll let you have Marmite, what the fuck that is about I have no idea. It’s the scraping from the bottom of the yeast barrel. Dunno where is from but it can go back.
        Anything left? Lmfao!!!

      12. Sorry, I had to attend a training on civility for work, what the hell was that all about? lol
We can make chocolate, we have taste and sophistication dammit and we love Hershey’s so shut it! We will measure how we see fit, and you know why? Because we didn’t pay for taxes on tea back in 1773! hahahaha
And Soccer is Soccer, or the way we think of it European football. Cricket is bbbooorrriinngggg…
Okay then we agree on the Marmite thing, it’s nasty as fuck. What’s with bollocks and the dogs bollocks?

      13. Your need to tell me what the hell that was about Veronica. I have no idea…
What’s with bollocks? I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what they are 🤣😂
You crack me up this has been so much fun. How about this, we’re both very different but equally awesome in our different ways… It’s just that we can joust and drive lmfao!!!

      14. We certainly are, this was fun. We will continue this another day as I’m sure it’s getting late for you on the other side of the pond and I need to head to yet another meeting I’m going to try very hard not to fall asleep in. Cheers my friend! 🙂

      1. Let’s just say I won’t be putting any toys together. I fell down the stairs, bad cuncucion, broken nose, left orbital bone, left wrist shattered and broken right elbow. It was the best tumbling show yet! My husband has been wonderful, he took two weeks off. It’s hard to do anything with a functioning hands and arms. But I’m great. We all have our challenges, this was an easy hurdle compared to others. Sounds like you are working a lot these days or spending time shuffling kids around. Have a great day. 🙂
