First Manic Monday of 2018

Hi there bloggies, so here is the first manic Monday post of 2018 and as I stand here with the year ahead I have to wonder “What will I do this year?”

After a bit of thought on this I have decided there are a few things I need to do this year. Some of which is already in progress on Planet Simon.

  1. Planet Simon is rammed with all kinds of fun and useless stuff I need to sort and and present it better. I may even have to *shock horror* try an restrain myself and only put in useful stuff. I’ve already done some sorting on my page but more is to come.
  2. Some of my old posts need love and attention and this will be going on and you’ll see them appear again. Some stuff might need deleting… In fact yeah… it does.
  3. I need to highlight my key work, more on this later.
  4. I’m going to be bringing you some new and I hope interesting stuff, some of you have asked about my digital art work and how I do it – this will hopefully feature. As well as I hope more writing, more stories and more geeky stuff!
  5. I’m going to blog share and collaborate more. If you’re interested let me know.
  6. I’m going to try and have another stab at getting people involved with my SciFi and Fantasy Hub Universe of Possibilites. What is is? Basically I’m letting collaborators post on here any of their posts or highlight their work – no strings attached. There are already collaborators but it’s very inactive. This is something where if you have a post you’ve already written – put it on here. Or highlight it here! If anything it’s highlighting your work with minimal effort! Get involved!

Onto today and as always finding time to write let alone blog is somewhat hard. I’ve been progressing my first book but in the wrong direction. I’ve binned what I’ve done so far as it’s just plain wrong. That’s it I was afraid of this but it is just wrong. So I’m thinking about how I can start again. Watch this space as I update you, also there’s going to be a chance to get to know some of the characters that I’m putting into the story. I’ve seen a few posts about building characters and maybe telling some of their earlier stories can help me build them and understand them before I thrown them into adventures together.

This brings me neatly onto what I’ve been working on recently in between everything else. I’ve created two new blogs, one for my story / writing work and the other for my drawing ans sketching work. I know that with everything else it can seem a lot to manage but I’m hoping this sharp focus can make this work more easily accessible. You can find these at:

https://fictionfrontier.wordpress.com

https://frontierimagination.wordpress.com

These sites aren’t quite finished or where i want them to be… yet but now at least you my bloggies know of their existence. Some sharp eyed bloggies among you have already found Fiction Frontier which the drawing site need more work – especially content.

  1. Oh wow, you’ve really hit the ground running this year, and we’re only a week and a half in! Good luck with all your various projects… I’m definitely going to head off and peruse your art blog now! All the best for 2018, Simon! 😀

    1. Thanks Helen, this has taken me months to sort out, work out and apply. For the new fiction blog I had to vet and cut out the rubbish from 800 posts. Then I found some posts were missing! Arggghhh!
Still that’s the reason for doing it – accessibility.

      1. What do you think un-motivates you? For me it’s very hard after struggling to get time to actually focus on writing so I do get it.
The art is going to keep coming, I’m finding all the time I can create some pretty cool stuff and often it doesn’t take long. Thank you though I appreciate your encouragement 🙂

      2. By all means do keep drawing , you are so good. I am a painter, I like watercolor and acrylics, I don’t mess with oils because they take too long to dry and are messy. I don’t know why I am not motivated. 🙂 ❤

      3. I used to love working with water colours when I was at school. I found them really easy to work with.
Maybe one day you’ll find it ☺️❤️

  2. Hi Simon, exciting to hear about your blog and all the updates you have planned. I have to catch up on your recent serial as a I loved the first five. Could we work our some sort of collaboration to do in Feb? What did you have in mind?

    1. Hi Mandi, good to know you like the serial, we’re at number 8 more so not too much to catch up on. ☺️
Sure a collaboration in Feb sounds good, I’m open to anything suggestions if not maybe we could both set each other something to post on each others blogs.
Do you have any ideas? ☺️

      1. I like the exchanging pieces to post. I’m going to make a note and brain storm a bit, than back to you this week, if that works. See if we can come up with a prompt or a theme we can both separately respond to?

  3. Don’t worry about binning your book – I did exactly the same thing with the one I’ve just finished. If it isn’t right, then it’s the kindest thing to do to it. At least you know now what doesn’t work. Keep at it, it WILL work, I promise you!

    1. Thanks Lucy for your good words, I know it will work I just have to find the right way. I’ll hold you to that promise by the way… not that I’m worried about that 🙂
How have things been for you?
