Murphy’s Law – Life’s Disasters

Murphy’s law of probability or sod’s law is summarised by the saying “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” This is a new little series intended to be a numerous and light hearted look at the world of cock up. More often than anything it’s the small things in life that stress us out, I know this is the case with me. This is a kind of reverse psychology look at the fact that when things go wrong – it ain’t that bad really.

Situation:

Life is full of little disasters. You never know what’s round the corner. You think thing’s a tootling along fine, then something happens. All plans go out of the window, your budget, time and energy all going with it.

For example, cars have time when they’re great and then times when they’re a pain in the rear! They won’t stay fixed and want more money than a wife wanting to renovate her house! You’re driving along happily, everything working.

A light turns on, warning you of something.

You ignore it, hoping it will go away.

A minute later… everything dies and the car stops. Leaving you in a bad place and with far less cash than you had.

You scream. Murphy’s Law has struck. Again.

What’s you view on Murphy’s Law? How has it struck you in the past… I hope you my fellow bloggies enjoy this little featurette.

  1. Reminds me of the warning light that came up on my car dash yesterday. When I looked in the car manual to see what it meant it said “take to your car dealer now!” šŸ™„

  2. This is true Simon although maybe it’s more philosophical or a realistic saying for life. Nothing is perfect so imperfection exists. If imperfection exist than things can and will go wrong. My most recent example. I didn’t sleep well two nights ago so I was supposed to sleep well last night because I have a project to finish today and usually when I sleep bad one night,,I sleep great the next night. But I didn’t because too busy thinking through the project — Murphy’s law strikes. I didn’t sleep so things went wrong. Great post!

  3. We had a Kia Mini Van. It was a trouble car to say the least. But one thing was great. I did my big weekly shopping tour and had to drive to several places. Then after 3 hours I arrived back home and saw something dark brown under the car on the floor. It was oil. When I had the mechanic over he said it blew the engine. So, at least the car took us all home safely before it died…. oh, how touching!!
