Murphy’s Law – Forgetting your own head

planet-simon-murphys-lawMurphy’s law of probability or sod’s law is summarised by the saying “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” This is a new little series intended to be a numerous and light hearted look at the world of cock up. More often than anything it’s the small things in life that stress us out, I know this is the case with me. This is a kind of reverse psychology look at the fact that when things go wrong – it ain’t that bad really.

Situation:

Its a bright sunny day and you’re on your way somewhere nice like the beach. You’ve stopped for fuel and a few goodies. On reaching for your wallet your blood runs cold, your mind instantly goes back to the kitchen top where you know at this time your wallet or purse is laying.

You scream. Murphy’s Law has struck. Again.

Forgetfulness comes to us all – more frequently as we age and sometimes we do our level best not to. The agent of Murphy is in our heads, deleting things from or memory and giving us unbelievable strife. Sometimes you would forget your head if it wasn’t screwed on! Keep that purse or wallet close!

What’s you view on Murphy’s Law? How has it struck you in the past… I hope you my fellow bloggies enjoy this little featurette.

  1. Hahaha! This sounds all too familiar… If I’m lucky, I’ll remember what I’ve the forgotten to lift on my way out the door before I reach “the point of no return”, which is the bus stop down the street. I usually do… But not always!

  2. My friend gave me a beautiful very expensive lamp, I managed to take it 10miles, got to my front door and banged it on the door frame, broke it in two! I didn’t dare tell her and she hasn’t noticed its super glued back together šŸ™‚

  3. Haha, I’ve always been ridiculously forgetful and a little oblivious to my surroundings. I figure the only benefit is that I won’t immediately suspect dementia someday, when i can’t find my glasses and they’re sitting on my head.

  4. My recent one was losing my monthly train ticket, on the second day after buying it. They’ll send me out another one but in the meantime I need to buy more train tickets and…. argh! Bound to happen sooner or later but so frustrating!

  5. I forget appointments more than anything. It’s really bad when I forget to add a 1 (or more) hour reminder to the calendar in my phone. That’s when the 15 min one bings and I’m scrambling to get out the door…if I can even make it to the appt on time. haha

      1. haha At least it wasn’t a major thing I missed, but still disappointing for my youngest. Ugh. I made up for it with a rice crispy treat. If only all disappointments could be solved so easily. šŸ™‚

  6. One morning last week, I went to the store and brought an extra canvas bag for my shopping as well as my handbag. Coming back home, I opened the door and slipped my keys back into my bag.
Later that afternoon, I went out and only when I was standing at the door fumbling for my keys to get back inside, did I remember I had slipped the bunch into the shopping bag, not my handbag.
Murphy strikes again. He stays busy, that guy

  7. ‘Tis of great comfort to read these words when the reader is 65 years old, as any slip of the memory can set you worrying about your mental state.
Although the problem is not new:
‘Oh I’d forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on!’ (expression that was old when I was a lad back in the 1950s)
‘One thing drives out another’ (Lord of the Rings)
‘What am I doing upstairs?’ a title of a blog post I encountered recently
I think in our Information Age there is so much piled into our heads which we feel we much absorb that…..
Sorry I must stop I appear to have mislaid my mug of tea….and two pens…and what was that thing I HAD to do this morning??

      1. It’s all the fault of technology, the government, (and after that you may add six other reasons of your own choice)

  8. I bought a condo in January — put all my savings into the little beauty. The day of the move my car broke down and it was a $1400 repair. MURPHY’s an asshole šŸ™‚ At least that’s my take on it.
