As usual with films I was a bit behind when I saw this and it wasn’t at the cinema. But I wish I had.
The plot of this is uncomplicated, aliens attacking the Earth and the human race needs to stop them. Where the difference lies is that the aliens are coming from a portal at the bottom of the Pacific ocean and we as humans have created huge robots to fight them. Each robot has two human controllers, using their minds to control the robots function (one human can’t – it kills them).
Where the originality of this film lies is with the technology and the constantly adapting aliens, we still have a human council that seem incapable of seeing sense, the one person that defies them and find his own path to save mankind and the brash and headstrong hero who’s fighting his demons and trying to come to terms with their past.
It’s a metal grinding action packed, unsophisticated film with some really good little bits of humour and humanity in it. Apparently the Chinese really liked this film and saved it. I’m not sure I would want another though – it’s too much to expect us to like a second one of the same unless they find a way to give it a total re-vamp!

I thought this film was wonderfully well done. Yes, it had action, but it had so much more than that with highly developed characters and an actual plot beyond the explosions. Its one of those movies that I will watch again whenever it comes on. However, I don’t believe a sequel would do the story justice.

3 years ago we went to California with the whole family. We went to Hollywood because when you are in Cali for the first time you need to see Hollywood. It was 4 days prior to the premiere of Pacific Rim and the Hollywood Boulevard was one huge construction. The let those robots appear from beneath the street. Great!
Back home we went to see the movie but I was still in a jetlag and fell asleep… lol!

I am not a fortune teller nor do I talk people into something. Just a suggestion. Don’t read the whole book in one go. Take your time, let things sink. When you feel like reading you will read exactly what you need βΊ

This is tremendous fun to watch! We now have the technology to do justice to those wonderful 1950s SF film plots

We do, it’s waiting to happen. The stories were so good, but the effect so bad.
2001 stood out for it’s day though. It’s sets and effects were amazing and still stand up today.
