The news that Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended from the BBC has been all over the place. It’s bigger news than the upcoming general election. The remaining episodes of Top Gear have been cancelled and Britain it seems is in chaos. I’m exaggerating I know, but it’s big news.
I’m not writing about whether what he’s supposed to have done is true or right of if he should be sacked. Ill let everyone else squabble over that until they go blue in face. Jeremy Clarkson is one of the most controversial characters on British TV and has been for years. With his many mistakes, blunders and non politically correct views, the people that despise him have had lots of ammunition to throw at him. I also believe that there have been many times that he has been taken too seriously and what he’s said taken out of context.
Whether by accident or design this infamous image has built him into a brand that is more popular than ever. The BBC knows this, that’s why they’ve kept him on so long, he brings in the ratings and money. With this in mind, I do find it a bit hypocritical to criticising a man that is doing the job he is supposed to be doing. Not everyone is made the same thank goodness, people like Clarkson spice life up. Sure he’s done some thing allegedly wrong and he’s said sorry at times. But I struggle to think of him as the racist, sexist totally arrogant man that many people see him as.
The way I see it, is that if you’re going to sack him then do it. Two things will then happen, there will be no ratings from Top Gear for the BBC because no one will watch it. The second thing is that life will become boring without him about. I won’t be able to to see him behaving like a lunatic in a car and all his haters will have no one to hate.
And on that bombshell…
